Care information

It gets the best foliage color and highest bloom count in full sun.

Adaptable to most soils, except those that stay wet.

Average water needs

Nothing special required. If desired, you may apply a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants in late winter/early spring when the soil is workable.

Little pruning is required. Weigela bloom on old wood, so if you wish to prune, do so immediately after it flowers.

Makes a great cut flower or foliage filler for arrangements.

Wine & Spirits weigela is a refreshing new spin on our best-selling Wine & Roses weigela, with deep purple-black foliage with crisp white and green flowers in late spring. Stunning in the landscape or garden, this versatile flowering shrub combines the old-fashioned charm of weigela with modern day performance for a showy yet easy-care shrub.

Dramatic dark foliage

Dark and light unite perfectly in Wine & Spirits® weigela. The creamy white flowers are perfectly set against the matte, dark purple foliage. Easily a new favorite. It’s a vigorous grower, quickly filling in the middle of the border or a mid-height hedge. It’s easy to pair with other elegant, purple foliage flowering shrubs and perennials.
