‘Aphrodite’ Sweetshrub

Zone: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Exposure: Full Sun Height: 5-10' Width/Spread: 5-10'

Unlike other red flowered Calycanthus, the flowers of this hybrid variety are fragrant. The large blooms appear throughout the summer, contrasting with the handsome glossy foliage. This is a distinctive addition to mixed borders and Cutting gardens.

Light: Grows happily in full to part sun, where it can get a minimum of four hours of sun exposure.

Soil: Really thrives in moist soil with high organic matter. It will adapt to most soils though.

Water: Enjoys very moist conditions and is a bit drought tolerant once it’s established.

Fertilizing: Benefits from an application of either compost or granular fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs in the springtime when the soil is workable.

Pruning: Regular pruning isn’t needed, as it maintains its best looking, carefree habit naturally. If you’d like to shape it or try to contain its size, you can do so in the late winter or early spring.

Other: The flowers look lovely and hold up well in a floral arrangement. Cut stems will last longer if the foliage is removed.
