If you haven’t had the pleasure of growing a mock orange before, now’s the time! And if you have grown or seen a mock orange before and thought they were way too big and unruly to enjoy in your yard, well, it’s time to rethink that. Illuminati Spice mock orange (Philadelphus coronarius) has been trialed and tested to ensure bigger, more abundant flowers, better foliage that holds up handsomely all season, and a sturdy, useful, and tame 4’x4’/1.2mx1.2m habit. In early summer, the shrub explodes with doubled white blooms that do indeed smell just like orange blossoms. But don’t be fooled – this durable beauty is hardy down to USDA zone 4 and heat tolerant through USDA zone 7. This native species lends itself well to being used as a low hedge, specimen, or incorporated into flower gardens.

Top reasons to grow Illuminati Spice mock orange:
– fragrant white double flowers
– handsome foliage looks great all season
–  half the size of conventional mock orange so it works anywhere without pruning or trimming

Light: Full to part sun.

Soil: Grows best in evenly moist, well-drained soils. However, mock orange is fairly adaptable and will perform well in most soils.

Water: Average water needs.

Fertilizing: Nothing special required. If desired,  apply a granular fertilizer formulated for flowering woody plants in late winter/early spring when the soil is workable.

Pruning: While old varieties of mock orange frequently become big and unruly, Proven Winners ColorChoice mock oranges are specifically selected for their tidy habits and well-behaved nature so need little to no pruning. They bloom on old wood, so if you wish to prune your mock orange, do so after it flowers.

Other: Specially selected for high quality foliage that looks handsome all season long.
