KODIAK® Orange Diervilla

Zone: 4, 5, 6, 7 Exposure: Full Sun, Part Sun, Shade Height: 3-4' Width/Spread: 3-4'

A good alternative to burning bush, this selection of our native bush honeysuckle has vibrant orange foliage in fall. Bright yellow flowers contrast with the orange new growth, and support pollinator populations. One of the few plants to tolerate dry shade, it will have more vibrant color in partial shade and Full Sun.

Light: Will thrive in the full range of sun conditions. It gets the best foliage color and highest bloom count with a few hours of direct sun.

Soil: Adaptable to most soils, except those that stay wet. Any period of extended sogginess will not be tolerated.

Water: Average water needs, once established, it’s quite drought tolerant.

Fertilizing: Nothing special required. If desired, you may apply a granular fertilizer formulated for woody plants in late winter/early spring when the soil is workable.

Pruning: Rejuvenation pruning every 3 to 5 years is recommended – this is the process of removing 1/3 of the thickest branches all the way to the ground. Can be pruned to shape in the springtime.

Other: Makes a great cut flower or foliage filler for arrangements.
