MR. MUSTARD® False Spirea

Zone: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Exposure: Full Sun, Part Sun Height: 2-3' Width/Spread: 3-4'

A diminutive selection, about a fifth the size of the species and about half the size of ‘Sem’. It boasts brighter and longer-lasting colorful springtime foliage that yields an array of yellow, orange, red, and even pink hues. White, astilbe-like, flowers appear in summer attracting butterflies and other pollinators. As growth slows in mid-summer, the foliage transitions to a Kelly green. Remove the suckers annually to maintain a mounded habit or plant in restricted area to contain its growth. Tolerant of alkaline and clay soils.

Light: Requires full to part sun, which is a minimum of four hours of direct light.

Soil: Will grow in all soil types, except those with poor drainage.

Water: Average water needs, does not tolerate sogginess.

Fertilizing: Doesn’t really need fertilizer.

Pruning: Blooms on old wood, so if you’d like to prune, do so after it’s done flowering in the summer.

Other: Grows outward overtime. If you’d like to contain it, plant it next to a sidewalk or within a ring in the ground.
