Pink CHIFFON® Rose of Sharon

Zone: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Exposure: Full Sun Height: 8-12' Width/Spread: 6-10'

If you’re ready to fall in love with a new plant, read on. Pink Chiffon rose of Sharon is an incredible performer and just so happens to be gorgeous, too. Its flowers are lacy doubles, pale pink with magenta streaks bursting from the ruffled centers. They’re big and they look like anemones. The coloring also happens to pop perfectly against the kelly green foliage. Its long whimsy branches are lined with these blooms and dark pink buds for weeks in the summertime. This show will come no matter your soil. Salty? Alkaline? Sandy? No problem. It just needs to drain after a rain or watering and this plant is all set to thrive. It can also handle the heat and remains essentially invisible to deer, for how much interest they show in it.

Why grow Pink Chiffon rose of Sharon?

  • Captivating pink coloring
  • Tough landscape performance
  • Useful habit for hedging or specimen

Light: Thrives in full sun. When planted in an area that gets less than six hours of direct sun each day, it will not flower as prolifically and long stems may bend more.

Soil: Enjoys any type of well-draining soil.

Water: Average water needs while establishing. Demonstrates good drought tolerance after its first year in the ground.

Fertilizing: Has a pretty high nutrient need. After its first year in the ground, apply a fertilizer each spring after the soil has thawed. Use a formula with a nutrient ratio that is highest in the middle number (# – # – #), this is Phosphorous and it will help the plant develop flowers. You can also wait to see what the bloom show is like and only apply fertilizer if you notice it beginning to produce less.

Pruning: Regular pruning is not necessary. It maintains a naturally graceful upright habit on its own. If any shaping is desired, do so in early spring.
