RED BALLOON® Viburnum

Zone: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 Exposure: Full Sun, Part Sun Height: 6-8' Width/Spread: 6-8'

Ready to make a statement? Plant a Red Balloon viburnum and it will do all the work for you! Its large, well-branched habit fills with creamy white blooms in the springtime. Those flattened flowers turn into bright red berries in the fall. It will fruit without a pollinator, but the show is even more plentiful when planted near a ‘Mohican’ or ‘Alleghany’ viburnum. They’ll cross-pollinate and provide a plentiful meal for your neighborhood birds. Throughout the season, its thick leaves are a handsome jewel green color and have an interesting matte texture. It looks handsome in mixed perennial beds, grouped hedging, and wildlife gardens where it’d work in tandem with other plants to provide a rich habitat for pollinators, birds, and small mammals.

Why grow Red Balloon viburnum?

Light: Grows in full to part sun, needs at least 4 hours of direct sunlight.

Soil: Prefers to have slightly acidic pH, but will grow in any type of well-draining soil

Water: Has average water needs, but will not tolerate sogginess.

Fertilizing: Apply a fertilizer formulated for flowering woody shrubs in early spring.
