SKY BOX® Japanese Holly

Zone: 6, 7, 8 Exposure: Full Sun, Part Sun Height: 4-5' Width/Spread: 2-3'

Stronger growing than other Japanese hollies, Sky Box™ has an elegant pyramidal habit that adds vertical lines to landscapes. It has shiny, dark green evergreen foliage and tight branching. It is an excellent specimen for formal gardens.

Light: Needs full to partial sun exposure to grow robustly. Beautiful foliage is burn resistant. Will grow fine in shade, but its color and form won’t be quite as lovely.

Soil: Prefers acidic soil, but does surprisingly well in a range of conditions. Even polluted soil!

Water: Requires regular water, does not do well in periods of drought.

Fertilizing: Regular fertilization isn’t necessary, but can be done in the springtime when the soil is workable.

Pruning: It doesn’t really need pruning. If you’d like to shape it a bit, you can do so in the late winter or early spring.

Other: If you start to see the foliage shift from the beautiful green gold color to a sickly yellow, that is likely chlorosis from growing in soil that is too alkaline. Apply a bit of sulfur to help slowly shift the soil back to neutral. Don’t apply too much at once, as that can really hurt your plant and the organisms in the soil.
